News Crawl Layer

The News Crawl Layer displays the content of an RSS feed on screen. It scrolls through the articles with a readable speed. You can watch a video tutorial here.

Group Parameter Function
Content Use Source The content can be loaded either from the internet by a URL or you can specify a Local File.
Feed URL Here you enter the URL of the RSS feed from the internet. (This input is visible when Use Source is set to URL.)
Local File With this input you specify which file you what to use as a source. The file content must be a valid RSS-XML-structure. Please read this article to learn more about this. Please note that this file only gets loaded once into the document and won't refresh automatically if you update the original file in your file system. A copy of the chosen file gets copied into the BoinxTV document and will be used until another file is chosen or a URL is picked. It is possible to update the file and then reload it in order to update the News Crawler. The crawl will not be interrupted but will start to show the content of the new file. (This input is visible when Use Source is set to Local File.)
Description Length Usually the description in an RSS article is longer than you want to display in your video. You can choose Unlimited to show all content or Shorten to to shorten the text to the character length of the following parameter.
Max Characters This is the maximum amount of characters that will be shown in the crawler on screen. (This input is visible when Description Length is set to Shorten to.)
Animation Direction This parameter lets you choose the scrolling direction of the crawler. Different languages have different reading directions. Options are Left to Right and Right to Left (default).
Speed This parameter controls the scrolling speed of the crawler. It has no measurement units because it is depending on many things to get the right speed, so you need to test it out.
Incoming You can choose the way in which the crawler appears when set to Live.
Outgoing You can choose the way in which the crawler disappears when disabled.
Duration If Dissolve or Push are selected for either of the incoming or outgoing transitions, you can specify the time it takes to complete.
Geometry Anchor You can set whether the crawler will be on the top or bottom of the screen. This also affects where the crawler will push from if that transition is selected.
Y Inset Specifies how far from the top or bottom the crawler is placed.
Left Inset Specifies how far from the left the crawler is placed.
Right Inset Specifies how far from the right the crawler is placed.
Appearance Title You can use the Mac font chooser to adjust how the title text of the entries will appear.
Description You can use the Mac font chooser to adjust how the description text of the entries will appear.
Type Kerning Specifies the spacing between each character.
Text Y Offset Allows vertical positioning of the text within the crawler.
Description Offset Specifies how far the description should be placed after the title text.
Item Divider Horizontal Margin Specifies how much padding should be surrounding the divider to separate it from the previous description and the upcoming title.
Image Pick the image to be used as the divider. If None is selected, the horizontal margin above will still define how much space is between the entries.
Vertical Offset Allows vertical positioning of the divider image within the crawler.
Scaling This defines how the divider image will be scaled. You can choose from 1:1 (No scaling; shown at 100% of original size), Max. Width (An option will appear below to define a width to fit the image to), Max. Height (An option will appear below to define a height to fit the image to) or % of Background Height (An option will appear below to define how much of the background height the image should fill).
Scale Quality This should be set to Better (Images) since only images can be used as dividers.
Background Type You can set what to use as the background for the news crawler. Pick from None (disables all other options in this section), Constant Color, Gradient Left to Right, Gradient Top to Bottom or Custom Image.
Height Define the height of the crawler here.
Color 1/2 Set the color for a constant color background or set the two colors to be used in a gradient. The opacity can be set in the color picker as well.
Image When you select Custom Image, you will be able to choose the image you want for the background. The image will be scaled to fill the whole crawler using the height set above as well as the width of the crawler defined using the left and right inset parameters in the Geometry section above.
Drop Shadow Enables options for a drop shadow to be applied on the crawler. You can set the color, opacity, blur amount and the distance and direction from the crawler. The opacity will follow the same settings as applied to the background above but can be adjusted further in these settings.
Background Animation Image An image can be animated on top of the crawler. You can make it gradually move horizontally, vertically or rotate. This feature only works if an option other than None is selected in the Background section above. This animation will be overlaid on the main crawler as well as the drop shadow.
Opacity Set the opacity of the animated image. Lowering the opacity reveals the background as set in the above section. This background animation follows the transparency of the background set above, so its opacity will be affected by the alpha channel of the background. To make this animation semitransparent above the below layers, leave this opacity set to 100% and set the Background above to be a Constant Color - either white or black - and control the opacity using that color picker.
Translation X Defines a speed to scroll the image left/right.
Translation Y Defines a speed to scroll the image up/down.
Rotation Defines a speed to rotate the image clockwise/counterclockwise.
